My practice has been on a trajectory of research for some time that considers evolution on earth beyond the extinction of human species. My exhibition last year, So Many Ways to Die… considered the historic apex predators of humans and paralleled them with contemporary aspects of climate change. I don’t see the demise of humans as a disastrous or grizzly eventuality, just a matter of time. There seems to be such a proliferation of doomsday finality around the fall of humanity, yet this is a collapse into oversimplified dejection. In my mind, the heart and art of being is to successfully hold the paradox of growth and decay. This moment has always held both.

‘Afterlife’ is born of the feeling of uplifting illumination, a happiness in the mystery, the resonant glowing of life in amongst the human paradox of holding space simultaneously with death and decay. It is less about some demise of body and species and more about the resilient life force spirit beyond.
