Forest biomes demonstrate intergenerational justice, as they extend relations into the soil and its microbe inhabitants through mycelium hyphae and share resources and information with other trees through these fungal conduits. They equally extend relations into the air, providing the air breathed by many earthly creatures, as well as sending well fed birds and bats off to spread their seeds to host more biomes.
In these ways, trees are world makers, subjects, heroes and babies in an environment they support and collaborate within. Their relations with fungus and lichens have evolved planetary soils, and guarantee renewal through decomposition. We as humans are in a species assemblage with all plants and phytoplankton as we depend directly on the oxygen and food they create.
